Despite advances in vaccines, preventives, and therapies to combat infectious disease, pregnant women have been consistently left behind—due in part to concerns about the inclusion of pregnant women in biomedical research and the reticence to use interventions not tested in pregnancy.
Through two grant–funded projects, we are working to develop concrete, consensus-driven guidance for how research, development, and deployment of biomedical interventions addressing HIV and emerging pathogens can be responsive to the health needs of pregnant women.
